The Non-GMO Project

The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization offering a third-party non-GMO verification program. The program aims to support sources and practices that effectively minimize GMO risk to the supply chain.

Certification is available for:

  • Seed and other propagation materials
  • Products that are either ingested or applied directly to skin (human food, ingredients, supplements, personal care products, etc.)
  • Over the counter drugs, including homeopathic remedies
  • Livestock feed and supplements
  • Products that are not ingested or applied directly to skin (packaging, cleaning products, textiles, etc.)
  • Pet food

Product Certification

The product certification process involves the evaluation of facility and ingredients to ensure that manufacturers meet the Non-GMO Project Standard, which includes standards for traceability, segregation, and testing.

These standards include:

  • Testing of high GMO risk inputs
  • Supply chain traceability
  • Segregation of compliant and non-compliant inputs
  • Obtaining inputs in accordance with uniform and meaningful specifications for product formulation
  • Accurate and clear product labeling
  • Quality assurance, operational consistency, addressing nonconformities promptly

GMO testing and an onsite inspection may be required with high-risk crops or inputs, such as corn or soy.

Product certification is carried out by independent Technical Administrators.
