Horsechestnut was traditionally used in the treatment of rheumatism and conditions of venous congestion and edema. Other major uses included hemorrhoids, rectal inflammation, and even spasmodic asthma. In modern herbal medicine, horsechestnut is seen mainly for the swelling and pain/discomfort of varicose veins as well as hemorrhoids. Horsechestnut is particularily useful for improving capillary fragility and resolving edema associated with poor circulation and/or inflammation.
